According to Wagar, the third future is Ecotopian New Age or decentralized and ecotopian counterculture, which are based on "communism". In this future, people will cut off economic and political ties of second future, andindividuals can choose their own destiny. They can grow their own food, produce their own energy by solar or wind, and produce their own goods which can be reused by their sophisticated technology, and will be self sufficient. Institutions of second future will be needed any more, because people will make self governing and self supporting community all over the world. Because people will have already experienced war and bureaucracy, army, poverty, and competition of markets will disappear. Also, labors will be replaced by robots.

According to Wagar, the second future is "democratic socialism". The world become one big country, and World Republic will be built. Less development country can evelve freely by support from world commonwealth, and people will try to restore the environment. However, because local cooperation will weak, it will be difficult to stop war and restore environment. Moreover, this democratic socialism inherits bureaucracy from former democratic capitalism, so central guidance system will be bureaucratic.

According to Wagar, the first future is "globalized liberal democratic capitalism". Developing new technology will create new market, and political democracy will help to keep this system. However, it will break up because of 2 reasons. For one thing, liberal capitalism system produces rich and poor, winner and loser, so poor and loser will complain about it. For another, this system needs large amount of money, so it will break up economically. Also, young people cannot join this liberal capitalism, so they will make the movement to change this system, and it will move on to second future, "democratic socialism".
